I'm Alyssa Slater.
I’m a Certified K–12 Reading Specialist, National Board Certified Teacher, and Wilson® Dyslexia Practitioner with more than 30 years of experience in education.
My dyslexia training is through Wilson Language Training. As a Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner, I am trained in the Wilson Reading System, a Structured Literacy program based on Orton-Gillingham principles. I've also completed extensive training in Fundations.
I’ve spent my career working with children who struggle to read and with the teachers and families trying to help them. Over the years, I’ve been a classroom teacher, reading specialist, instructional coach, and literacy leader.
What I’ve learned is that when a child struggles with reading, parents often know something isn’t clicking long before they know what to do about it.
That’s why I created The Dyslexia Detective: to help parents recognize the clues behind reading struggles, understand what their child may need, and find practical ways to help at home.
